On 27th, January 1995, the Prime Minister signed Decision No. 71/TTg authorizing the establishment of Van Lang University. On 17th, September 1995, 4,569 students officially became the centerpieces of Van Lang University's first opening ceremony at the National Academy of Public Administration.

• April 6th, Van Lang University and Dr. Nguyen Cao Tri - Chairman of the School Council were honored to receive the Third-Class Labor Order. 
   
• June 2nd, Van Lang University was recognized to meet the quality accreditation standards for 7 majors: Tourism and Travel Service Management, Finance - Banking, Construction Engineering, Business Administration, Commercial Business, Biotechnology, and Architecture.
   
• June 10th, Van Lang University held a ceremony to announce the certification of the training program meeting AUN-QA quality standards for 04 majors: Accounting, Graphic Design, Hotel Management, and Environmental Technology.

On April 14th, 2021, Van Lang University held the inauguration ceremony of the practice area of the Faculty of Dentistry to officially launch the system of facilities for training dentistry in Vietnam. The practice area is consulted by leading experts in the field with modern specialized machines imported from world-class brands in the US, Germany, and Japan.

On April 1st, 2020, Van Lang University announced a co-sponsor of the 2,000 MV20 ventilator project for the Government of Vietnam to support in fighting the Covid 19 pandemic. These ventilators are delivered directly to the Departments of Health and hospitals in Vietnam, as well as supplying ventilators to other countries such as Laos and Cambodia.

In April 2019, Van Lang University organized a series of VL-25 events towards the 25th Anniversary Celebration, having the participation of nearly 500 leading domestic and international scientists and businesses from the fields of Tourism, Architecture - Planning, Environment - Engineering, Biotechnology, Applied Fine Arts

On 12th January 2018, Van Lang University was one of the two universities in Ho Chi Minh City to receive the Certificate from the Ministry of Education and Training for outstanding achievements in the movement " Innovation, creativity in teaching and learning 2016-2017.

In July 2000, Van Lang prepared to build Campus 2 at 233A Phan Van Tri Street, Ward 11, Binh Thanh District. In August 2000, more than 4,000 students from 4 faculties moved to Campus 2.

In September 1999, the 5th Opening Ceremony and the 1st Graduation Ceremony for 103 graduates were held at Hoa Binh Theater, Ho Chi Minh City. On 18th November 1999, Van Lang owned its first campus: 45 Nguyen Khac Nhu Street, Co Giang Ward, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City.

In June, 1998, the 1st term of Trade Union congress of Van Lang University (1998 - 2000) was organized, approved the Trade union program and elected the Executive Committee of the Trade Union with 7 members. 

The 4th Opening Ceremony was held at 4 Nguyen Dinh Chieu Street, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City – campus for Economic majors. 

On 7th, September, 1998, the Prime Minister signed Decision No. 813/TTg, granting 6 hectare of land in Ward 5, Go Vap District, Ho Chi Minh City for Van Lang University to build school.

In April 1997, Van Lang University Party Committee was established with 6 members. From 18th to 28th August 1997, 37 students delegations of Van Lang had a journey back to the roots of VietNam: visit Hung Temple; return to our thousand years of cultural capital, visit Uncle Ho's Mausoleum; visit the scenic places and historical relics along the country.

In February, 1996, the Labor Confederation of Ho Chi Minh City recognized the Provisional Trade Union Executive Committee of Van Lang University with 5 people. This is the first step to officially establish Van Lang University Trade Union. 

The 2nd Opening Ceremony was held at Phan Dinh Phung Stadium - Ho Chi Minh City with 13 majors. In the Opening Ceremony, for the first time, the school's traditional flag was handed over to the students.
