Communication as development catalyst: Vietnam In The Global Context

The conference “Media as a Development Catalyst” is organized to become a forum for academic exchanges among Vietnamese media scholars on the interaction between media and development within and outside Vietnam.

Background

Effective communication helps people gain information, build relationships, eliminate misunderstandings and conflicts, facilitate public discourse, encourage citizen participation, promote behavior change, and ultimately empower people to realize their potential.

With a very broad scope, the conference invites scholars, especially early-career researchers, to contribute empirical or theoretical research papers on any communication issue that has direct or indirect implications for development goals, processes and outcomes.

Submission details

- Authors should submit either a full paper of 6000-7000 words or an extended abstract 750-1000 words 

- Send to email cdc2025@vlu.edu.vn by 5 pm, 1 February 2025 (Vietnam time) 
- Contributions could be written in either English or Vietnamese.

- If you submit an extended abstract, you are advised to follow the format of a structured abstract where possible, using the following headings: 


1 - Background/context of the topic

2 - Research objectives

3 - Theoretical and/or methodological approaches

4 - Key findings

5 - Conclusion

Conference publication

All selected papers and abstracts will be published in an official proceedings book with an ISBN. Following the conference, contributors will have the opportunity to develop or revise their existing submissions into full English-language papers for consideration for two special issues of the following peer-reviewed journals:

CDC 2025 is an open conference arising from the Realizing the Potential of Academic Publishing in Vietnamese Media Scholars project, hosted by Bournemouth University and funded by the British Academy. Conference funding

The conference is co-funded by the British Academy and Van Lang University. It will not charge any registration fee. However, authors who are not in the aforementioned BA grant will need to secure funding for their own travel and accommodation. Following the peer review selection process, authors will be issued a formal invitation so that they can apply for funding from their institutions.
