History of Van Lang
Van Lang University was founded in 1995 to become a "decent university." Since then, we have continued thriving to expand our ideals and enhance our educational quality. Here is the attestation of our milestones and history throughout the years.
We have grown over time, but we are constantly striving for ways to improve our education system and bring out the best in our students. We are committed to ensuring our students grow as individuals throughout their academic careers at our university.
Even though our buildings and campuses may have changed over the years, our aspirations remain the same.
2018
The historical moment when Van Lang University was awarded the Certificate of Accreditation of Educational Institutions.
2022
Van Lang University has been recognized for meeting quality accreditation standards for 07 majors: Tourism and Travel Service Management, Finance - Banking, Construction Engineering, Business Administration, Business Commerce, Biotechnology, and Architecture. Van Lang University has officially raised the total number of majors that have passed the National quality accreditation of the University to 10.
2021
Van Lang University has donated 10 billion VND to the COVID-19 Prevention Fund, to aid the government in fighting against the pandemic. (June 5, 2021).
2020
Established the School and received the Third Class Labor Medal.

Van Lang University organized a series of events called VL-25 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the university, bringing together nearly 500 leading domestic and international scientists and businesses from the fields of Tourism, Architecture – Planning, Environment – Engineering, Biotechnology, and Applied Fine Arts.

Van Lang University inaugurated the Olympic swimming pool area at the main campus (69/68 Dang Thuy Tram, Ward 13, Binh Thanh District, HCMC) Van Lang University held the Inauguration Ceremony of the Odonto-Stomatology practice area, officially launching the system of facilities consulted by dental professionals with modern specialized machines imported from world-class brands in the US, Germany, and Japan.

On September 30, 2020, the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) and Van Lang University signed a cooperation agreement on 12 bachelor-master programs.

Van Lang University accompanied the Graduation ceremony, closing the school year of 2019 - 2020 at 38 high schools in Ho Chi Minh City, and awarded scholarships to many students who overcome difficulties and studied well, with a total scholarship value of nearly 200 million VND.

Van Lang University held the Launching Ceremony of Scientific Journals - A place to publish scientific articles and research works of lecturers and students.

The Ministry of Education and Training license van Lang University to train a master's degree in Business Administration. The school signed a cooperation agreement with Microsoft Vietnam Co., Ltd (under Microsoft Corporation), Mitsubishi Electronic Vietnam Company, and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).
Year 2015
The school completed the work of compensation, clearance, and construction of a new school area in Ward 5, Go Vap District, Ho Chi Minh city. On October 14, 2015, Van Lang University changed its model from public to private school according to Decision No. 1755/QD-TTG.
11/2019
Van Lang University first hosted the 8th CsoNet International Conference in 2019, attracting nearly 80 scientists who are leading experts in the field of science - information technology in the world to attend. Van Lang University received the award of Top 100 Typical Organizations and Enterprises of ASIA 2019, at the same time Associate Professor Dr. Tran Thi My Dieu - Rector, was honored as "Typical managers and intellectuals of ASIA integration".

Van Lang University cooperated with Uni-Italia Vietnam to organize the 2nd Vietnam - Italy Higher Education Forum under the chair of the Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training, the Italian Ambassador, and the Italian Consulate in HCMC.

The school launched the Journal of Van Lang University, index ISSN 25252429. Van Lang University signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation and student exchange with Saimaa University of Applied Sciences (Finland).

Van Lang University cooperated with Wageningen University (Netherlands) to successfully organize an International Workshop within the framework of the Project of Sustainable Industrial Development in the Deltas of Vietnam through reuse, recycling, and diversification of water sources in industry - ENTIRE.

Year 1996
In February 1996, the Labor Confederation of Ho Chi Minh City recognized the Provisional Trade Union Executive Committee of Van Lang University with 5 people. This is the first step to officially establishing Van Lang University Trade Union. The 2nd Opening Ceremony was held at Phan Dinh Phung Stadium - Ho Chi Minh City with 13 majors. In the Opening Ceremony, for the first time, the school's traditional flag was handed over to the students.
Year 1995
On 27th, January 1995, the Prime Minister signed Decision No. 71/TTG authorizing the establishment of Van Lang University. On 17th, September 1995, 4,569 students officially became the centerpieces of Van Lang University's first opening ceremony at the National Academy of Public Administration. On 16th, November 1995, the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union of Van Lang University was established. On 20th, November 1995, the Ceremony introducing The Provisional Executive Board of Youth Union was held at Ho Chi Minh Youth Cultural House.
07/2009
The 11th Graduation Ceremony was held at Hall C001 - Campus 2. For the first time, the Ceremony has been broadcasted directly through the school's network to each parent's reception room.

The National Council for Educational Quality Verification recommended the Minister of Education and Training to recognize Van Lang University for meeting the quality standards. This conclusion is based on the recognition of the strengths and weaknesses of Van Lang along with the recommendations for improvement.
The nine strengths of Van Lang University listed in this document are mission, objectives, training program, teaching methodology, teaching staff, care for learners, activities in Science and Technology, international cooperation, facilities, and computer networks.
Year 2008
On May 1st, 2008, Van Lang University and Carnegie Mellon University (CMU, USA) signed a cooperation contract to develop Software Engineering under the CMU program. July 20th, 2008, the 10th Graduation Ceremony was held at Campus 2. This is the first time that the "Flower Road" has been designed as a special gift on graduation day. In December 2008, Van Lang University hosted the 6th National Architect Student Festival "Southern Land" with the participation of 14 domestic and foreign universities. In 2008, the Van Lang Family Fund was established. Van Lang signed a cooperation contract with the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry – LCCI about international certificates in the field of accounting, finance, and marketing.
Year 2007
On the 27th - 28th, of March and 12th of April 2007, Van Lang Creative Student Festival was held at Campus 2, with the participation of 7 schools: Van Lang University, University of Architecture, Hong Duc University, Gia Dinh Fine Arts College, Dong Nai Fine Arts, and Decoration College, London College for Design & Fashion (Hanoi). In July 2007, the 9th Graduation Ceremony was held at Campus 2. After many years, this is the first time that Graduation Ceremony has been held for all majors.
Year 2006
Van Lang University was one of the first 20 universities in the world to be selected to participate in the university quality accreditation process. This is the first quality accreditation for the Vietnam university system with the participation of experts from two professional accreditation organizations (1 from the US & 1 from Findland) attracting the attention of many universities, media, and society. In July 2006, the 8th Graduation Ceremony was held at Campus 2. This is the first time Van Lang introduced its graduation gown. The Graduation gown was designed by the Faculty of Fine Arts with the bird symbol on Van Lang's drum. Each bachelor was given a hat with the year of graduation printed on it.
Year 2005
From 9th to 10th, April 2005, the Second Young Creative Festival was held at Campus 2, with the participation of three schools: the University of Architecture, Hong Bang University, and the University of Fine Arts. On the 10th of March, the 10th Anniversary of Van Lang University was held at Campus 2. On this occasion, Van Lang was honored to receive a Certificate from the Minister of Education and Training. On 22nd, April 2005, the Deputy Prime Minister - Pham Gia Khiem attended the 6th Graduation Ceremony of Construction Major. Since 2005, the Opening Ceremony of Van Lang has been changed into a special festival for New students at campus 2.
Year 2003
In March 2003, the first Youth Creation Festival was organized by Van Lang University and hosted by three schools: the University of Architecture, Ton Duc Thang University, and Hong Bang University. On 17th, April 2003, Van Lang University inaugurated Campus 2 which was designed and constructed as the standards: 7 floors and 3 blocks of the ground floor. It is the office of Economics and Fine Arts major and also a place for most of Van Lang’s Events. On 11th, October 2003, the 9th Opening Ceremony was officially held at Hall C001, Campus 2. The 5th Graduation Ceremony was the first time one to be solemnly held in Hall C001, Campus 2.
Year 2002
On 19th, January 2002, the Students’ Association of Van Lang University was officially established, introducing The Provisional Executive Committee of the Students’ Association. On 11th April 2002, Campus 2 began to be built.
Year 2000
On 12th, February 2000 Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union signed the decision to upgrade the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union of Van Lang University to the district level. On the 10th of March, Van Lang University solemnly celebrated Hung Kings Commemoration Day and the 5th Anniversary at Ho Chi Minh City Theater. In July 2000, Van Lang prepared to build Campus 2 at 233A Phan Van Tri Street, Ward 11, Binh Thanh District. In August 2000, more than 4,000 students from 4 faculties moved to Campus 2. The 6th Opening ceremony was held at the new campus - 233A Phan Van Tri, Binh Thanh District, Ho Chi Minh City. Van Lang initiated and hosted the Students Marathon Award for universities, colleges, and non-public universities. Later, we expanded it into Students Marathon Award for all students in Ho Chi Minh City. In October 2000, Van Lang’s Party Organization was reorganized into Party Committee with 37 students divided into 3 groups.
Year 1999
In September 1999, the 5th Opening Ceremony and the 1st Graduation Ceremony for 103 graduates were held at Hoa Binh Theater, Ho Chi Minh City. On 18th November 1999, Van Lang owned its first campus: 45 Nguyen Khac Nhu Street, Co Giang Ward, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City.
Year 1998
In June 1998, the 1st term of the Trade Union Congress of Van Lang University (1998 - 2000) was organized, approved the Trade union program, was, and elected the Executive Committee of the Trade Union with 7 members. The 4th Opening Ceremony was held at 4 Nguyen Dinh Chieu Street, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City – campus for Economic majors. On 7th, September 1998, the Prime Minister signed Decision No. 813/TTG, granting 6 hectares of land in Ward 5, Go Vap District, Ho Chi Minh City for Van Lang University to build the school.
Year 1997
In April 1997, Van Lang University Party Committee was established with 6 members. From 18th to 28th August 1997, 37 students delegations of Van Lang had a journey back to the roots of VietNam: visit Hung Temple; return to our thousand years of cultural capital, visit Uncle Ho's Mausoleum; visit the scenic places and historical relics along the country.

Year 2008
On May 1st, 2008, Van Lang University and Carnegie Mellon University (CMU, USA) signed a cooperation contract to develop Software Engineering under the CMU program. July 20th, 2008, the 10th Graduation Ceremony was held at Campus 2. This is the first time that the "Flower Road" has been designed as a special gift on graduation day. In December 2008, Van Lang University hosted the 6th National Architect Student Festival "Southern Land" with the participation of 14 domestic and foreign universities. In 2008, the Van Lang Family Fund was established. Van Lang signed a cooperation contract with the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry – LCCI about international certificates in the field of accounting, finance, and marketing.
Year 2007
On the 27th - 28th, of March and 12th of April 2007, Van Lang Creative Student Festival was held at Campus 2, with the participation of 7 schools: Van Lang University, University of Architecture, Hong Duc University, Gia Dinh Fine Arts College, Dong Nai Fine Arts, and Decoration College, London College for Design & Fashion (Hanoi). In July 2007, the 9th Graduation Ceremony was held at Campus 2. After many years, this is the first time that Graduation Ceremony has been held for all majors.
Year 2006
Van Lang University was one of the first 20 universities in the world to be selected to participate in the university quality accreditation process. This is the first quality accreditation for the Vietnam university system with the participation of experts from two professional accreditation organizations (1 from the US & 1 from Findland) attracting the attention of many universities, media, and society. In July 2006, the 8th Graduation Ceremony was held at Campus 2. This is the first time Van Lang introduced its graduation gown. The Graduation gown was designed by the Faculty of Fine Arts with the bird symbol on Van Lang's drum. Each bachelor was given a hat with the year of graduation printed on it.
Year 2005
From 9th to 10th, April 2005, the Second Young Creative Festival was held at Campus 2, with the participation of three schools: the University of Architecture, Hong Bang University, and the University of Fine Arts. On the 10th of March, the 10th Anniversary of Van Lang University was held at Campus 2. On this occasion, Van Lang was honored to receive a Certificate from the Minister of Education and Training. On 22nd, April 2005, the Deputy Prime Minister - Pham Gia Khiem attended the 6th Graduation Ceremony of Construction Major. Since 2005, the Opening Ceremony of Van Lang has been changed into a special festival for New students at campus 2.
Year 2003
In March 2003, the first Youth Creation Festival was organized by Van Lang University and hosted by three schools: the University of Architecture, Ton Duc Thang University, and Hong Bang University. On 17th, April 2003, Van Lang University inaugurated Campus 2 which was designed and constructed as the standards: 7 floors and 3 blocks of the ground floor. It is the office of Economics and Fine Arts major and also a place for most of Van Lang’s Events. On 11th, October 2003, the 9th Opening Ceremony was officially held at Hall C001, Campus 2. The 5th Graduation Ceremony was the first time one to be solemnly held in Hall C001, Campus 2.
Year 2002
On 19th, January 2002, the Students’ Association of Van Lang University was officially established, introducing The Provisional Executive Committee of the Students’ Association. On 11th April 2002, Campus 2 began to be built.
Year 2000
On 12th, February 2000 Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union signed the decision to upgrade the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union of Van Lang University to the district level. On the 10th of March, Van Lang University solemnly celebrated Hung Kings Commemoration Day and the 5th Anniversary at Ho Chi Minh City Theater. In July 2000, Van Lang prepared to build Campus 2 at 233A Phan Van Tri Street, Ward 11, Binh Thanh District. In August 2000, more than 4,000 students from 4 faculties moved to Campus 2. The 6th Opening ceremony was held at the new campus - 233A Phan Van Tri, Binh Thanh District, Ho Chi Minh City. Van Lang initiated and hosted the Students Marathon Award for universities, colleges, and non-public universities. Later, we expanded it into Students Marathon Award for all students in Ho Chi Minh City. In October 2000, Van Lang’s Party Organization was reorganized into Party Committee with 37 students divided into 3 groups.
Year 1999
In September 1999, the 5th Opening Ceremony and the 1st Graduation Ceremony for 103 graduates were held at Hoa Binh Theater, Ho Chi Minh City. On 18th November 1999, Van Lang owned its first campus: 45 Nguyen Khac Nhu Street, Co Giang Ward, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City.
Year 1998
In June 1998, the 1st term of the Trade Union Congress of Van Lang University (1998 - 2000) was organized, approved the Trade union program, was, and elected the Executive Committee of the Trade Union with 7 members. The 4th Opening Ceremony was held at 4 Nguyen Dinh Chieu Street, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City – campus for Economic majors. On 7th, September 1998, the Prime Minister signed Decision No. 813/TTG, granting 6 hectares of land in Ward 5, Go Vap District, Ho Chi Minh City for Van Lang University to build the school.
Year 1997
In April 1997, Van Lang University Party Committee was established with 6 members. From 18th to 28th August 1997, 37 students delegations of Van Lang had a journey back to the roots of VietNam: visit Hung Temple; return to our thousand years of cultural capital, visit Uncle Ho's Mausoleum; visit the scenic places and historical relics along the country.
Year 1996
In February 1996, the Labor Confederation of Ho Chi Minh City recognized the Provisional Trade Union Executive Committee of Van Lang University with 5 people. This is the first step to officially establishing Van Lang University Trade Union. The 2nd Opening Ceremony was held at Phan Dinh Phung Stadium - Ho Chi Minh City with 13 majors. In the Opening Ceremony, for the first time, the school's traditional flag was handed over to the students.
Year 1995
On 27th, January 1995, the Prime Minister signed Decision No. 71/TTG authorizing the establishment of Van Lang University. On 17th, September 1995, 4,569 students officially became the centerpieces of Van Lang University's first opening ceremony at the National Academy of Public Administration. On 16th, November 1995, the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union of Van Lang University was established. On 20th, November 1995, the Ceremony introducing The Provisional Executive Board of Youth Union was held at Ho Chi Minh Youth Cultural House.
