Gio Concert 2024: Sounds of Brass and Percussion in Celebration of Vietnamese Teachers' Day

Following the success of “Gio Concert 2023”, the Faculty of Theater and Cinema at Van Lang University (VLU) organized “Gio Concert 2024” at Trinh Cong Son Hall, Main Campus on November 12, 2024, with the participation of musicians and lecturers from the Faculty of Brass and Percussion at Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music (HCMCONS), musicians from Ho Chi Minh City’s Ballet and Symphony Orchestra (HBSO), and students from the Faculty of Brass and Percussion at HCMCONS. The orchestral concert was the Faculty’s caring gift for the University to celebrate the 42nd Anniversary of Vietnamese Teachers' Day (November 20) and the 30th Anniversary of VLU’s Establishment.

The Brass and Percussion Sets include instruments with unique tones, which play important roles in creating lively nuances for musical works. With miraculous and captivating sounds, the orchestra led the audience through many emotions with performances that harmoniously combined classical and modern music. From the classics like Danse Des Mirlitons by Tchaikovsky or familiar movie soundtracks in How to Train Your Dragon and Spirited Away to one-of-a-kind mixes of La La Land or Barbie’s World, the talented musicians recreated familiar yet new melodies, leaving an unforgettable impression in the audience’s hearts.

The symphony orchestra brought outstanding performances under the direction of Conductor Nguyen Tuan Loc, Lecturer of the Faculty of Brass and Percussion at HCMCONS.

Ms. Bui Pham Lan Phuong, Vice President of VLU, expressed: “Van Lang University always believes that training does not stop at expertized knowledge but also fosters good values inside every student’s heart. Not only a memorable milestone on the 30th anniversary of VLU’s establishment, but artistic activities like Gio Concert 2024 are a testament to efforts in facilitating the young to experience, unleash their creativity, and especially nurture their souls. Music will help them feel deeper layers of life, express love, and appreciate the values in everything around us.”

Through this event, Van Lang University demonstrated its goal of establishing meaningful platforms for students, encouraging creative thinking and artistic talent exploration. Music programs with high artistic value contribute to raising aesthetic qualities and art appreciation style of the VLU community.
