On March 3, 2022, Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee launched the Council of University Rectors including 46 higher education institutions in Ho Chi Minh City.
The Council of Rectors in Ho Chi Minh City is comprised of six different councils, including those for pedagogy, health, culture, arts, tourism, society and humanities, engineering and technology, economics, and politics and law. Among the members from higher education institutions who participate in the council is Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thi My Dieu, the President of Van Lang University.
The Council of Rectors of Universities in the city is responsible for assisting the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City in directing and implementing various measures to improve the quality of higher education in the area and provide high-quality human resources. Their focus is on building a team of scientific and technical staff, industry and field managers, intending to develop Ho Chi Minh City into a hub for industry, service, finance, and banking. They aim to make it the largest science and education department in the country and the region and gradually participate in the high-tech labor market both regionally and internationally.
In 2022, the Council accomplished several significant tasks. These include the implementation of Decision 1426/QD-UBND, dated July 5, 2021, by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee. The decision approved the Master Project for training human resources in eight international-level industries, (including Information Technology-Communications, Mechanics-Automation, Artificial Intelligence, Business Administration, Finance-Banking, Health, Tourism, and Urban Management) period 2020-2035 and Sharing University. Additionally, the Council has been successful in promoting a team of reputable experts and scientists in various fields. The member universities of the Council have taken charge of completing the design and construction tasks of component projects according to the approved schedule. As of the fourth quarter of 2022, all nine component projects have undergone content appraisal and have been selected by the Advisory Council. These projects have been assigned to various organizations and individuals to oversee the implementation of science and technology tasks.
The National University Ho Chi Minh City, in line with the directives of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, has collaborated with the Department of Education and Training, along with other departments and branches in Ho Chi Minh City, to develop and explain the Project, "Building Ho Chi Minh City - High-quality human resource training center for the whole country and the region". The project has received a "satisfactory" rating from the Advisory Council and is currently being revised by the drafting committee. The Advisory Council has recommended that the project be submitted for approval and that contracts be signed for the implementation of scientific and technological tasks.
In 2023, the Council will focus on implementing the following activities: Implementing the overall project and component projects; Coordinate the selection of qualified higher education institutions to participate in international human resource training according to orders from the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City after the component project is accepted, periodically synthesize and report progress, project implementation results by year, arising problems and solutions during implementation. Additionally, the Council will urgently deploy and complete scientific and technological tasks for the nine component projects under the overall project, ensuring that the approved progress is maintained, and the tasks are carried out in accordance with the guideline of the signed contract. Lastly, they will deploy scientific and technological tasks for the project "Building Ho Chi Minh City - A Center for Training High-Quality Human Resources of the Country and the Region".
