With a focus on shaping the future through the power of global knowledge and fostering connections between generations of students and lecturers, the series of events welcoming Course 30 students of the International Education Institute at Van Lang University (IEI), will take place from September 23rd, 2024 to September 27th, 2024 under the theme "IEI Global Gateway" - the starting point of an international standard journey.
This series of activities is designed to guide freshmen through engaging events that explore the knowledge and skills essential for becoming global citizens in the digital age. As part of this program, the "newcomers" IEI will participate in 7 useful workshops, which will address the questions about learning and study plans with partner universities: Liverpool John Moores University (UK), The University of Newcastle (UON), Edge Hill University (UK), Angelo State University (USA), thereby preparing for studying in an international environment.
Understanding the challenges students face in selecting an exchange program, Mr. Eliot Wright, Director of the Language Center at Edge Hill University (UK), emphasized that with over 25 years of experience in the education sector, the student transfer program offers a valuable learning opportunity, don't let English hinder your pursuit of dreams, practice communication regularly to improve your vocabulary and self-confidence.
From a realistic perspective on "Critical thinking and problem-solving", Prof. Phuong Nguyen - Director of The Institution of Social Research & Training at RMIT University emphasized that these skills are crucial not only for university students but also for individuals entering the workforce. It is important to enhance these skills every day because these skills are keys to achieving success, and adapting them to various situations in life.
To help students solve difficult problems in managing their learning journey, Dr. Tony Huynh - Market Development Director in Malaysia and Vietnam, lecturer at Liverpool John Moores University (UK), will participate in the workshop "MASTERING ACADEMIC LIFE" to offer practical insights on developing effective schedules by applying proactive learning strategies, enhancing performance, and developing creative thinking. At the same time, students need to cultivate time management skills, reduce stress, and understand the importance of balancing academic study, extracurricular activities, and personal life.
In the framework of the workshop "Digital Literacy and Technology Skills" - Dr. Byron Mason introduced engaging activities and discussions focused on the role of humans in the digital age. Acquiring selective knowledge on different platforms through access to modern tools is how we proactively keep up with the times, meet demanding business requirements, and improve work quality.
With the workshop "Academic policy and plagiarism" emphasizing the importance of plagiarism checking in research projects, Dr. Dang Thi Huyen Trang - Head of the Training Department of International Education Institute noted: "The IEI always prioritizes investment in and the use of tools widely employed by international institutions for plagiarism detection; starting from the second year, the evaluation of subjects will include checking dissertations; products and assignments that exceed the specified ratio will not be eligible for review. For first-year students, IEI will provide opportunities for you to become familiar with the frequency and general training framework of the entire course.” This policy serves as a foundation to ensure objectivity and reinforce the academic quality and capabilities of IEI students.
With the guidance of industry experts, the Orientation Week 2024 events at the International Education Institute of Van Lang University have helped IEI freshmen prepare to embark on a journey of conquering new knowledge, breaking all limits, and integrating to become global citizens.
