On September 8, 2024, the Van Lang Language Institute of Van Lang University will hold a scientific conference with the theme, “Teaching and Learning English for Non-English Majors at the University Level – The Role of Lecturers and Learners in Enhancing the Quality of English Teaching.”
The conference aims to analyze and update new trends in research and application in teaching and learning English for non-English majors at the university level, following a learner-centered approach. This contributes to enhancing understanding in the field of general English teaching while fostering connections and expanding the scientific research network in this area.
The event will take place from 07:30 to 17:00 at Van Lang University’s main campus (69/68 Dang Thuy Tram, Ward 13, Binh Thanh District, HCMC), with the participation of leading experts, representatives from universities and colleges, and lecturers who wish to attend.
The content of the conference focuses on the roles of lecturers and learners in improving the quality of English teaching, specifically:
📗 In teaching English: curriculum development, learning materials development, innovation in teaching methods to enhance language proficiency and job opportunities for students, and applying technology in English teaching;
📗 In English testing and assessment: building assessment systems, evaluation methods, and applying technology in testing and assessment;
📗 In lecturer development: professional development activities for English lecturers, improving professional competence, and scientific research skills for English lecturers;
📗 In student activities: improving the quality of English teaching and learning by building active learning models, extracurricular activities, and developing students' self-study and lifelong learning capacities;
📗 In ensuring the quality of English teaching and learning: quality assurance activities for English teaching, ensuring the quality of English programs, and building and promoting a culture of quality at institutions that teach English for non-English majors.

The conference will take place over three sessions, with two plenary sessions and one breakout session. The morning plenary session will be led by Dr. Tran Le Huu Nghia and Dr. Vo Doan Tho (8th floor, F building), while the afternoon plenary session will be led by Dr. Nguyen Huu Cuong (5th floor, F building).
