On March 14, 2025, the Faculty of Public Relations and Communications at Van Lang University organized a special seminar titled "Mastering Language and the Path to Becoming a Stand-up Comedian" as part of the Department of Practical Vietnamese. The seminar aimed to help the third-year Public Relations students cultivate a love for culture and learn to use language accurately.
Language is the lifeblood that nourishes culture. Every word and story carries memories, traditions, and the unique identity of a nation. Understanding correctly, using language appropriately, and communicating effectively are key to success in education, work, and life.
Through the topic "Mastering Language and Remembering the Roots," Mrs. Truong Thi My Dung, Director of Ruy Bang Tim Information and Communication Company, emphasized the role of verbal art in preserving cultural identity. She also guided students through a fun game to identify common reduplicative words, analyzed some popular phrases in Gen Z language (e.g., "vibe," "slay," "simp") and replaced them with their equivalent native Vietnamese terms.
By leveraging the versatility and multi-meaning nature of language, stand-up comedians can create unexpected, witty, and intelligent performances. As a renowned comedian with an extensive vocabulary and unique charm, Mr. Uy Le, Creative Director and co-founder of the Saigon Teu stand-up comedy group, enthusiastically shared his journey to becoming a stand-up comedian. He advised that, if one wishes to become a professional content creator, the most important factor is not the number of followers, but the meaningful message one wants to convey.
