On December 20, 2023, the VLU’s Faculty of Medical Technology organized a study trip to Military Hospital 175 (Go Vap District, Ho Chi Minh City) for Course 29 students in Medical Laboratory Science in order to help students acquire insight into the practical work environments.
Every year, Van Lang University organizes study tours and internships at businesses, reputable hospitals, and medical units for Health Sciences students to engage in the real workplace settings, improve academic knowledge, and nurture their desire to commit to their profession as well as contribute to society.
On December 20, 2023, a group of Coure 29 students from Medical Technology had a study tour at Military Hospital 175.Dr. Nguyen Cuu Dinh, Head of VLU's Training Department, conveyed gratitude to Military Hospital 175 for providing students with opportunities to study and gain experience in a professional setting.Lieutenant Colonel. MD. CKII. Ho Ngoc Diep, Deputy Director of the Training Center, introduced Military Hospital 175 and outlined future development and partnership goals with Van Lang University.Van Lang University's Medical Technology student group received a warm welcome at the 175 Military Hospital, where doctors and medical professionals provided them with detailed tours of treatment areas and specialized equipment, enriching their knowledge significantly.At Military Hospital 175, students observed the autonomous sample transport system. This pneumatic system quickly transfers patient samples from the collection areas in the clinic to the laboratory for testing and returns the results to different areas efficiently.Course 29 students explored the hemoglobin electrophoresis machine used for advanced tests on pigments, which is valuable in diagnosing and screening for inherited hemolytic hemoglobin disorders.Students learned about the functions and operation of the automatic hematology analyzer. Using the analysis results, doctors can assess the patient's overall health and early detection of illness for specific treatments.Devices for coagulation and automatic blood group testing.VLU’s students toured many laboratory areas, including the serum room, culture room, the parasitology laboratory, molecular biology areas, and so on.Students observed specialists working in the PK - Parasitology department at Military Hospital 175.Students were directed to the molecular biology laboratory, where DNA extraction from plants and animals is performed, biological markers at the molecular level are identified, and complete genes or genomes of microorganisms are analyzed using techniques like PCR and Real-Time PCR, spectrophotometry, and electrophoresis..The study tour to Military Hospital 175 provided valuable knowledge for VLU’s Medical Laboratory Science students.
Freshmen benefit from early exposure to real work environments, boosting their study motivation. Health Science students, besides having a strong foundational knowledge, by observing doctors and professionals, gain a clearer vision of their future careers, aiding in focused career planning and reinforcing their commitment to their chosen field.
