Van Lang University's collaboration with the National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology (NKUST) involves cooperative efforts between VLU Faculty of Environment and the Institute of Oceanography at NKUST, aligning with a commitment to implement policies for the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in all activities at VLU. Aiming towards Goal 17, "Partnerships for the goals," Van Lang University strengthens regional and international collaboration in accessing science, technology, and innovation.
Since its founding in 1995, VLU Faculty of Environment has been at the forefront of scientific research activities and affirmed training quality. The Faculty has carried out several environmental and climate change research projects that have been successfully tested and implemented in real-world situations, enhancing the Vietnamese people's quality of life.
In January 2021, Van Lang University and the National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for collaboration, serving as the foundation to promote collaboration between the two institutions. This has led to successful joint activities, including participation in seminars, specialized competitions, and the successful completion of the training of a Ph.D. in Environmental Science in September 2023 at the National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology. These activities enrich the academic endeavors of both institutions, paving the way for deeper collaborations in research activities.
Prof. Chung-Hsin Wu, Vice President of the National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology, expressed appreciation for the many research endeavors carried out by the VLU Faculty of Environment and the university in its entirety. The professor expects that intimate linkages between scientific research and education would benefit students' professional development and provide diverse opportunities for academic exchange and career development for students.
Professor Chettiyappan Visvanathan (AIT) ranking in the top 1% of influential researchers globally, was present at the special collaboration signing. He affirmed that research with good effects on major environmental concerns in developing countries is off to a promising start with the collaboration between a fledgling university such as Van Lang University and a long-standing, prestigious university like NKUST. This combination gives students and young researchers at Van Lang University a wealth of learning opportunities and global access to cutting-edge technologies.
After a period of positive exchanges, representatives from each institution discussed several promising initiatives and plans. In the 2023-2024 period, VLU Faculty of Environment and NKUST will jointly implement a research program titled "Bio-Circular Economy - Biorefinery," focusing on addressing solid waste from agricultural activities in Vietnam.
The National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology is one of the top universities in Southern Taiwan, ranking 542nd in the QS Sustainability Ranking 2024 (Quacquarelli Symonds Ltd), 271st in the Asian University Rankings - East Asia, and among the top 551-600 in the Asian University Rankings. Over 40 scientists from NKUST are in the top 2% of leading scientists globally (according to Stanford University). |
