On December 7, 2024, the VLU Faculty of Dentistry organized the seminar “Fusion: A 40-Year Journey in Veneer Restoration – From Porcelain Chips to Full Occlusal Reconstruction.” The event aimed to facilitate interaction among dentists, technicians, and students from the VLU Faculty of Dentistry with Dr. Jean-François Lasserre, focusing on modern veneer restoration techniques.
With over 40 years of clinical research and practice, Dr. Jean-François Lasserre, a leading expert in veneer restoration, argued that the determination of aesthetic standards in modern dentistry involves more than visual elements. It requires a profound integration of neuroscience, humanities, and art. Through case studies ranging from simple to complex restorations, the expert highlighted the importance of manual skills in dentistry and encouraged continuous learning among practitioners.
Under the theme “Communication with Dental Laboratories,” Dr. Lasserre identified effective dentist-laboratory communication as a critical factor for successful treatment outcomes. He also provided a detailed comparison between Disilicate de lithium and traditional Feldspathic materials, showcasing the advantages of the newer ceramic material. Additionally, during the discussion on “Occlusal Adjustment and Asymmetry,” he analyzed the interplay of occlusal relationships and presented treatment methods for facial asymmetry.
Dr. Tran Ngoc Quang Phi, Head of the VLU Faculty of Dentistry, praised Fusion as a profound research work on veneer restoration. He proposed adding the book to Van Lang University's library to serve as a valuable resource for dental students. Dr. Tran Hung Lam, Deputy Head of the VLU Faculty of Dentistry, expressed admiration for the harmonious blend of dental science and artistry in Fusion, which has inspired generations of young dentists.
The seminar “Fusion: A 40-Year Journey in Veneer Restoration – From Porcelain Chips to Full Occlusal Reconstruction” offered fresh perspectives for dentists, technicians, and students from the VLU Faculty of Dentistry. It marked a significant milestone in the exploration and application of advanced dental technologies, contributing to the growth of the dental field in Vietnam.
