Van Lang University Announces Talent Scholarships for the 2024 Intake

In 2024, Van Lang University welcomes the freshmen of class 30 with preferential policy and scholarships. To encourage young talent, Van Lang offers 430 Talent Scholarships ranging from 25 to 100 million VND per scholarship. These scholarships are awarded to candidates with exceptional qualities or achievements in academics, arts, sports, entrepreneurship, research, and community activities.

Each year, Van Lang University awards Talent Scholarships to incoming students, encouraging a diverse, talented, and resilient student community.

In 2024, Van Lang University is offering 430 Talent Scholarships, categorized as follows:

  • Level 1 Scholarship: 100,000,000 VND (one hundred million VND) – 30 scholarships
  • Level 2 Scholarship: 50,000,000 VND (fifty million VND) – 100 scholarships
  • Level 3 Scholarship: 25,000,000 VND (twenty-five million VND) – 300 scholarships

Notably, Van Lang University prioritizes 30% of these Talent Scholarships (approximately 120 scholarships) for students enrolling in Engineering and Technology programs.

Recipients of the Level 1 Talent Scholarship who maintain excellent academic performance (GPA of 3.2/4.0 or higher) and a conduct score of 70 or above will be guaranteed job support in their final academic year, either at Van Lang University or with the university’s partner enterprises.

CRITERIA FOR TALENT SCHOLARSHIP SELECTION

Van Lang University awards Talent Scholarships to individuals who excel in various fields and whose university study goals align with the university's educational philosophy: training well-rounded individuals with integrity, lifelong learning abilities, and a positive impact on society.

Students who exhibit exceptional qualities or outstanding achievements in one or more of the following six areas are eligible to apply for the scholarship:

1. EXCEPTIONAL ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE

- Mandatory Criteria: Academic performance in the last three years of high school must be rated as Excellent, and conduct must be rated as Good or higher; demonstrated outstanding academic ability in a specific subject or field, as evidenced by academic achievements or valuable academic project portfolios.

Candidates with one of the following awards/achievements may be given priority during the selection process, depending on the level of the award/achievement:

  • Winning medals or awards in international competitions, National Excellent Student contests, or National Science and Technology competitions in the past three years.
  • Winning First, Second, Third, or Consolation prizes in Provincial or centrally governed city-level Excellent Student contests in the past three years.
  • Participation in national teams for international competitions, National Excellent Student contests, or National Science and Technology competitions.
  • Students from specialized or gifted high schools with an academic performance rating of Excellent and a conduct rating of Good or higher in the past three years.
  • Holding valid international language certificates such as IELTS 6.0 (or equivalent), or other language certificates like DELF, TCF, HSK, etc., valid until June 30th, 2024.

2. ATHLETIC TALENT

Mandatory Criteria: Academic performance in the last three years of high school must be rated as Excellent, and conduct must be rated as Good or higher; demonstrated exceptional talent or achievements in sports, such as:

  • Winning medals or awards in international or national professional sports competitions in the past four years.
  • Winning awards in provincial or centrally governed city-level sports competitions in the past four years.
  • Participating in national teams competing in official sports tournaments recognized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism and confirmed as having fulfilled the required tasks.

An example of an outstanding recipient is Truong Viet Vu (left), a professional swimmer for the national team since 2015, who received the Talent Scholarship from Van Lang University in 2022. Currently, Việt Vũ is a second-year student in the Information Technology program, continuing his passion for swimming alongside his studies.

3. ARTISTIC TALENT

Mandatory Criteria: Academic performance in the last three years of high school must be rated as Good or higher, and conduct must be rated as Good or higher; demonstrated talent or achievements in the arts, such as:

  • Winning medals or awards in international or national professional competitions in singing, dancing, music, fine arts, or other arts within the past four years.
  • Winning awards in provincial or centrally governed city-level talent competitions organized by reputable organizations.
  • Having notable artistic talent or engaging in artistic activities with a positive impact on the community.

Candidates with significant achievements or influence in the arts have the opportunity to receive valuable Talent Scholarships from Van Lang University.

4. YOUTH ENTREPRENEURSHIP

- Mandatory Criteria: Academic performance in the last three years of high school must be rated as Excellent, and conduct must be rated as Good or higher; demonstrated achievements or entrepreneurial projects, such as:

  • Winning awards in entrepreneurship competitions at the provincial or centrally governed city level or higher.
  • Winning awards in ASEAN regional skill competitions or international skill competitions nominated by the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs within the last 03 years.
  • Possessing outstanding ideas, projects, or professional activity portfolios.

5. SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH

Mandatory Criteria: Academic performance in the last 03 years of high school must be rated as Excellent, and conduct must be rated as Good or higher; demonstrated achievements or projects in scientific research, such as:

  • Having scientific research projects awarded in student scientific research competitions at the provincial or centrally governed city level or higher.
  • Having scientific papers published in national or international scientific journals or conference proceedings.

6. OUTSTANDING COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES

Mandatory Criteria: Academic performance in the last 03 years of high school must be rated as Excellent, and conduct must be rated as Good or higher and demonstrated achievements or outstanding community projects, such as: achieving excellent results in provincial or centrally governed city-level youth union activities, being a key member in implementing community projects or activities that create a positive impact and are recognized at the provincial or centrally governed city level or higher.

SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION DOCUMENTS

1. Talent Scholarship Application Letter: Applicants must write an application letter for the talent scholarship (no more than 1000 words). This letter should introduce themselves, explain their motivation and goals for university education, express their desire to enroll at Van Lang University, and outline their future career plans.

2. Self-Introduction Video Clip: Along with the application letter, applicants must submit a short video clip (no more than 3 minutes) introducing themselves and showcasing their outstanding abilities or achievements. The video format and language are unrestricted.

3. Supporting Documents:

  • Certified photocopy of Citizen Identification Card
  • High school transcripts for the last 03 years (with the official seal of the high school)
  • Language proficiency certificates (if any)
  • Certified copies of commendations, awards, and certificates
  • Project portfolios or documents that demonstrate the applicant’s abilities

HOW TO SUBMIT SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION

Applicants should submit all scholarship application documents online through the Van Lang University Admissions website at https://tuyensinh.vlu.edu.vn/ (under the "Xét học bổng tài năng" section).

Application Period: May 25th - June 15th, 2024

Based on the submitted scholarship applications, Van Lang University will convene a Scholarship Evaluation Council and announce the preliminary results by July 10th, 2024.

Successful scholarship applicants will receive a certificate from Van Lang University. The scholarship will take effect upon enrollment.

The scholarship is intended for the students' educational purposes. Van Lang University monitors students' scholarship funds and deducts them from tuition fees until the scholarship limit is exhausted. Scholarships are non-refundable for any reason.
