Van Lang University at the Vietnam-Australia Higher Education Cooperation Forum: prioritizing the promotion of research collaboration in new technologies, AI applications, and sustainable development

“When researching with international partners, we are given the opportunity to enhance our self-capacity, transform academic research results into practical applications, and address complex global issues…” - Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thi My Dieu - President of Van Lang University affirmed the message at the Vietnam-Australia Higher Education Cooperation Forum held this morning, March 8, 2024, at the Australian National University (Canberra).

On March 8, 2024, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thi My Dieu - VLU’s President and MSc. Bui Pham Lan Phuong - VLU's Vice President attended the Vietnam-Australia Higher Education Cooperation Forum. The program was part of the official visit to Australia and participation in the Special High-Level Conference commemorating the 50th anniversary of ASEAN-Australia relations by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his spouse and a high-level delegation. There, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thi My Dieu - President of VLU engaged in dialogue with experts in the field of education from both countries about the strengths and priority research directions at Vietnamese universities.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thi My Dieu - President of VLU engaged in dialogue with Australian experts on strengths and priority directions in international scientific research collaboration at Vietnamese universities, especially young ones.

With the mission of “Educating individuals who bring positive impacts and inspire society”, international scientific research collaboration and expanding students' learning experiences are top priorities for investment and development at Van Lang University. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thi My Dieu stated that in recent times, the university had connected with nearly 500 partners from 27 different countries, spanning Europe, the Americas, Asia, and Oceania. On this foundation, the number of VLU students given opportunities to study abroad, experience short-term study, internships, or field trips abroad is steadily increasing.

As part of the program, 8 documents from the universities of both countries were officially exchanged. Among them, Van Lang University exchanged a cooperation agreement with 2 partners, namely The University of Newcastle and The University of Tasmania.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thi My Dieu emphasized that developing an international network of scientific research partners is the top priority for a young university. International research activities, hosting and exchanging academic ideas with leading experts in various fields, have contributed to creating a dynamic, positive, and inspiring academic environment, promoting the spirit of scientific research at Van Lang University.

Recently, following the UniGo - UniConnects SDGs Hackathon series organized by Van Lang University and the University of Tasmania, 3 most outstanding VLU students were sponsored by the University of Tasmania for full scholarships for short-term exchange programs in Australia.

Drawing from practical experience, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thi My Dieu highlighted important factors in international cooperation, including: Developing diverse resources and expertise, enhancing research capacity, lifelong learning spirit; Providing conditions to apply research results into practice, to serve the community innovation and knowledge transfer; Research should aim to address complex challenges occurring in society; Attracting talents, sponsors, and opportunities to expand cooperation relationships; Coordinating scientific research cooperation smoothly, closely linked to development goals, common needs of the field, country, and global trends in accordance with the set strategy.

"When researching with international partners, we are given the opportunity to enhance our self-capacity, transform academic research results into practical applications, and address complex global issues." - Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thi My Dieu - President of Van Lang University stated that international scientific research collaboration is one of the top priorities for a young university like Van Lang University. In this regard, VLU proposed cooperation with Australian universities on sustainable development in circular economy, climate change adaptation, tourism, agriculture, biology, new materials,...; research application of AI in technology fields that VLU is strong in such as Environment, Biology,... and developing new technologies (VR-AR, computing power, internet of things, generative AI, cyber security,...)
