On the morning of September 19, 2024, the National University of Singapore (NUS) and Van Lang University (VLU) - ranked 8th in the world and 1st in Asia (QS World University Rankings 2024) - officially signed a MOA to promote academic and research activities across various fields.
The MOA was signed by Prof. Aaron Thean, Vice President (Academic) and President of the National University of Singapore (NUS), and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thi My Dieu - President of Van Lang University, in the presence of the leadership teams and guests from both parties.
In her opening remarks, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thi My Dieu - President of Van Lang University stated: “The collaboration between the two universities will open up many valuable opportunities for students and faculty through joint academic and research activities.” She also emphasized: “We have implemented several important initiatives to enhance the quality of education at VLU, contributing to diversifying students' learning experiences and increasing competitiveness in the job market.”
The National University of Singapore (NUS) is Singapore's leading university, offering a global approach to education, research, and entrepreneurship, with a focus on Asian perspectives and expertise. We have 16 colleges, faculties, and schools across three campuses in Singapore, with over 40,000 students from 100 countries enriching our diverse and vibrant campus community. We have also established more than 20 NUS Overseas Colleges startup centers worldwide.
NUS adopts a multi-disciplinary and practical approach to education, research, and entrepreneurship, thereby fostering strong collaborations with businesses, governments, and scholars to address important and complex issues related to Asia and the world. Established in 1995, Van Lang University is one of the leading private universities in Vietnam, distinguished by its multi-disciplinary, multi-level training programs, and a comprehensive learning environment that meets international quality accreditation standards. The mission of Van Lang University is to develop well-rounded learners who are ethical, influential, and capable of making a positive impact, inspiring society. Currently, the university offers over 100 programs across 7 fields of study, ranging from undergraduate to doctoral levels, spanning diverse areas such as Business - Management, Arts - Design, Law - Social Sciences - Communication, Engineering - Technology, Architecture, Tourism, and Health Sciences.
Since its establishment, Van Lang University has always prioritized the quality of teaching and training, continuously striving to enhance its educational programs to meet international standards. To date, the academic programs at Van Lang University have been benchmarked against globally recognized university programs. This strength has increasingly attracted many students to enroll. Additionally, the university has been awarded a QS Stars rating of 4 stars by QS-Quacquarelli Symonds from the United Kingdom and has recently been listed in the THE Impact Rankings 2024, which evaluates the impact of universities on the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Furthermore, the university has achieved accreditation for its educational quality according to FIBAA standards, affirming its position on the international education map.
The National University of Singapore and Van Lang University will collaborate to develop training programs and enhance skills, focusing on microchip design and semiconductor technology; exchanging academic information; implementing joint training and research initiatives in the field of Artificial Intelligence; increasing undergraduate and postgraduate student exchanges through new educational programs; and consulting on the development of laboratory systems.
The MOA between NUS with VLU not only marks an important milestone in international collaboration between the two institutions but also represents a new turning point for Van Lang University (VLTECH). With Van Lang's strong commitment to investing in the technology sector, VLTECH will focus on training high-quality human resources to meet the increasing demands of the world and the rapid advancement of technology; affirming Van Lang's pioneering role in equipping students with the necessary skills and knowledge to be ready to adapt and lead in a continuously changing technological landscape.
With the goal of continuously expanding initiatives and collaborative programs, both parties are committed to jointly creating sustainable values in academia and research, contributing to the enhancement of the quality of education and training for learners in both countries.
Prof. Aaron Thean, Deputy President (Academic Affairs) and Provost of the National University of Singapore shared: "We are honored to collaborate with Van Lang University on this project, which demonstrates our strong commitment to promoting innovation and educational development. This partnership leverages NUS's extensive knowledge in the field of advanced semiconductor chip design, process technology research, as well as digital technology and digital transformation. This will equip students with essential skills, preparing them for the future workplace." He also emphasized: "This collaboration is a testament to the strength of academic links in achieving progress and simultaneously opening new opportunities in student training for both countries."
As part of the signing ceremony, Van Lang University launched the VLU Summer School 2024 program with the theme "Semiconductors: From Materials to Practical Applications." This advanced course offers opportunities for individuals who wish to delve deeper into semiconductor technology, a field that is being heavily invested in and developed globally.
