On the morning of April 25, 2025, the Interior Design Department of the Faculty of Arts & Design at Van Lang University held an introduction session for the Lighting Room Lab - one of the pioneering educational models supporting teaching and practical experience for Interior Design students. This marks a new step forward in the university’s strategy to combine theory with practice and enhance students’ professional capabilities.

The Lighting Room Lab enables students to practice and experience advanced lighting design, applying it to real-world interior design projects.

It is a modern practice space equipped with a specialized lighting system featuring 71 bulbs from 53 different types - including Spotlights, Downlights, Wall Lights, Track Lights, Outdoor Lights, etc. The system was installed by LK Technology (known for major projects like Sun World Ba Na Hills, Landmark 81, Deutsches Haus) and designed and manufactured by NEKO Lighting - one of the world’s leading lighting brands from Switzerland. All lighting devices in the room use LED chip technology with adjustable brightness via a smart dimming system.

M.A, Artist Phan Quan Dung, Dean of the Faculty of Arts & Design at Van Lang University, discussed the collaboration on the Lighting Room Lab with Ms. Shasha, a representative of NEKO Lighting.

According to Mr. Dung, the Lab allows students to gain hands-on experience and understand how to handle lighting in both interior and exterior spaces. He emphasized that modern design trends not only focus on form and materials but also require the effective use of lighting to create artistic effects, enhance aesthetics, and improve functionality in each project.

The Lab is equipped with a comprehensive lighting system featuring 71 indoor and outdoor bulbs across 53 different types.

It is utilized during coursework and project work, such as: Interior Lighting Design Projects, Service Facility Interior Design, Office Interior Design, Commercial Interior Design, Residential Interior Design, and projects that integrate lighting elements. Students will perform detailed measurements and analyses of technical specifications such as illuminance, luminous efficacy, color rendering index (CRI), color temperature (Kelvin), etc., to understand how to select and arrange lighting appropriately for different types of spaces.

Dr. Le Long Vinh, Head of the Interior Design Department, shared the pride and excitement of faculty and students in receiving such advanced facilities from the university, which support both academic and creative needs in the technological era.

Speaking at the Lab’s introduction event, Dr. Vinh said: “For the Interior Design field, combining theory with hands-on experience helps students develop their creativity, especially in lighting design - an essential element in interior spaces. The Lighting Room Lab is built as a special venue where students can access advanced lighting technology and directly experience real-world applications through their design projects.”
