Van Lang University students astonished at the Student Biology Olympiad 2023

(VLU, 05/6/2023) - Lecturers and students of VLUs Faculty of Applied Technology achieved 01 team prize and 03 individual prizes when they participated in the Student Biology Olympiad for the first time.

Student Biology Olympiad is a competition organized by the Vietnam Association of Biological Sciences with the participation of students from various domestic universities. This contest aims to create an academic space where passionate students can gain in-depth insight into Biology. Through testing, exchanging, and visiting architectural sites in Ho Chi Minh City, contestants will have great opportunities to learn from lecturers, and prestigious scientists, get acquainted with peers who share the same passion, and exchange valuable experience on effective learning methods and research techniques.

In the developing journey, the Faculty of Applied Technology of Van Lang University has developed an outstanding group of lecturers and students with contributions and awards in science research and academia. In the Vietnam Student Biology Olympiad, Van Lang University includes three lecturers and five students (sophomores and juniors): Dr. Vu Thi Quyen - Head of Biotechnology; MSc. Tran Thi Minh, Lecturer of the Faculty of Applied Technology; Ms. Nguyen Ngoc Lan Anh, Lecturer of the Faculty of Applied Technology; Ms. Nguyen Ngoc Lan Anh; Le Thi Kim Nuong, Medical Biotechnology student of Course 26; Dang Phuong Linh, a Medical Biotechnology student of Course 26; Nguyen Ngoc Hung Thinh, a Medical Biotechnology student of Course 26, Luu Hoang Song Nhi, a Medical Biotechnology student of Course 27 and Phan Tran Phuong Han, a Medical Biotechnology student of Course 26.

In this year's season, contestants will go through the rounds of Theory and Practice exams on a computer with five following fields: Genetics, Animal Biology, Plant Biology, Cell Biology, and Microbiology. Lecturers and students of the Faculty of Applied Technology outperformed several tough competitors to earn the following awards:

Van Lang University is the first private university to compete in the National Vietnam Student Biology Olympiad. Dr. Vu Thi Quyen, Head of Biotechnology, shared that Van Lang is likewise the most recent registration unit (just six days before the exam date) and that most students in the team haven't had enough preparations for the competition because they have just taken the end-of-semester exam in school. However, overcoming many hurdles, the team's perseverance and outstanding outcomes surprised the Organizing Committee.

The Faculty of Applied Technology has attained a remarkable milestone in developing its journey. Van Lang University hopes that our lecturers and students have good health, faith, and passion and continue to gain more and more awards in the future.
