Overview

Water is an essential and important resource in daily life. We focus on protecting and managing water sustainably. We encourage efficient water use, ensure access to clean water and sanitation for everyone, and propose solutions to restore and protect freshwater sources.

Goal

  • By 2030, achieve the goal of providing access to safe drinking water for disadvantaged rural areas.

  • By 2030, achieve the goal of supporting disadvantaged rural areas in constructing safe and adequate sanitation facilities, and ending open defecation, with particular attention to the needs of women and girls, as well as those in vulnerable situations.

  • By 2030, improve water quality by reducing pollution, eliminating dumping and minimizing the release of hazardous chemicals and materials, halving the proportion of untreated wastewater, and significantly increasing safe recycling and reuse globally.

  • By 2030, significantly increase water use efficiency across all sectors.

  • By 2030, support the conservation and restoration of water-related ecosystems, including mountains, forests, wetlands, rivers, groundwater, and lakes.

  • By 2030, expand international cooperation and capacity building support to developing countries in water and sanitation-related activities and programs, including water extraction, desalination, water use efficiency, wastewater treatment, recycling and reuse technologies.

  • Support and enhance the participation of local communities in improving water and sanitation management.

  • By 2025, prevent and significantly reduce all forms of marine pollution, especially from land-based activities, including marine debris and nutrient pollution.

  • Minimize and address the impacts of ocean acidification, including through enhanced scientific cooperation at all levels.

  • Enhance the conservation and sustainable use of oceans and their resources by implementing international law as reflected in UNCLOS, which provides the legal framework for the conservation and sustainable use of oceans and their resources, as recalled in paragraph 158 of Our Common Future.
